PURPOSE:To prevent degradation of picture quality under the circumferential region of screen close to the sidewall face by arranging the fluorescent screen potential and the backface potential alternately onto the sidewall face of flat type cathode-ray tube between the fluorescent screen conductive film and the backface conductive film. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent conductive film 9 is provided while covering fluorescent screen onto the inner face 3a of panel section 3 and a backface electrode comprising a backface conductive film 10 is provided while facing against said film 9 then higher potential is applied onto said film 9 than said film 10 to deflect the electron beam B toward said film 9 thus to form a flat type cathode ray tube. Here, conductive films 13a, 13b are provided on the sidewall face 5a of sidewall section 5 while holding a triangular insulation band 12 between them to apply same potential with said film 10 onto said film 13a while same potential with said film 9 onto said film 13b. Consequently, uniform potential distribution can be achieved in the circumferential region near the sidewall face 5a resulting in improvement of the picture quality.
