PURPOSE:To provide a thermal recording material having excellent resistance to fingerprints,oils and water, by using a specified phenolic compound as a color developer. CONSTITUTION:A phenolic compound of general formula (I) is used as a color developer, in a thermal recording material utilizing a color forming reaction between a leuco dye and a color developer. The phenolic compound can be easily obtained in high yield by bringing 3, 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid into reaction with a compound of general formula (II) under alkaline conditions. At least one leuco dye is used singly or in combination. The leuco dye is preferably a leuco compound of a dye based on triphenylmethane, fluoran, phenothiazine, auramine, spiropyran, indolinophthalide or the like. The ratio of the amount of the leuco dye to the amount of the phenolic compound of general formula (I) is suitably about 1:1-6 (by weight). |
