PURPOSE:To automatically produce works having excellent shapes and hardness by constituting a hardening treatment method for a shape steel of the heating of the works, the detection of the shape and temp. in each part of the work, mist cooling and subsequent measurement of the work bending and the hardness in each part and feedback to a controller. CONSTITUTION:The work is heated 10 to the hardening temp. and thereafter the size thereof is measured in a shape checking stage 11 and the temp. in each part thereof is detected in a stage 12 in the stage of hardening the work which is the track of a bulldozer. These signals are fed to a selecting arithmetic circuit 13 which selects cooling conditions and feeds the same to a controller 14, by the output from which the work is subjected to mist cooling and is thus hardened. The bend and hardness of the work by the hardening are thereafter measured respectively by measuring instruments 17, 16. The measured values are compared with the instructed value of a relational arithmetic instructing device 18 which feeds the difference therebetween back to the controller 14. The reject is put out of the line via the stages 20, 21 and thereafter the accepted work is subjected to a prescribed tempering treatment 22. The track, etc., having the excellent quality and shape are thus produced.
