PURPOSE:To effectively absorb impact energy, by absorbing impact energy due to an axial impact load exerted to a side member in the form of axial deformation. CONSTITUTION:A side member 10 is formed in a closed cross-sectioned shape having a width (a) and a height (b) and has a side panel 12 and a side plate 10c opposed to the panel 10c on which a plurality of beads 16 having a vertical length less than the vertical length of the side plate 10c so that they do not reach the front and lower corners of the side plate 10c, are attached at predetermined pitches lambdaB in the axial direction of the side member. The pitches lambdaB is determined by B=(a+b)X(1+ or -0.1)/2.
