PURPOSE:To provide the titled decomposition-suppressing agent composed of a specific alkylamide alkylamine, having excellent effect to suppress the decomposition of chlorinated hydrocarbon, free of the problems such as the blocking and contamination of distrillation apparatus and piping, etc., and useful for the distillation refining of chlorinated hydrocarbon. CONSTITUTION:The agent is composed of one or more compounds selected from the alkylamide alkylamines of formula I [R1 is 1-30C alkyl, aryl, alkylcycloparaffin or alkylnaphthene; R2 is -CH2CH2- or -(CH2)3-; R3 and R4 are H or R1; at least one of R2 and R4 is not H] or formula II. The agent is used for the stabilization of 1-10C chain or cyclic chlorinated hydrocarbon such as 1,1,1-trichloroethane in an amount of 25-1,000ppm by weight based on the chlorinated hydrocarbon. The addition of the agent to refined chlorinated hydrocarbon is carried out preferably by spraying the agent into the distillation column at the stage near the top. The agent is effective also to brominated hydrocarbons.
