METHOD FOR SUPPLYING STIRRING GAS TO CONVERTER

PURPOSE:To effectively supply a stirring gas without deteriorating the quality of a steel to be produced by subjecting a converter waste gas to purification refining and pressurizing the gas to a large pressure then bottom-blowing the gas as the stirring gas. CONSTITUTION:The gas generated in a converter 2 has about 60% CO concn. The gas is recovered 48 and is stored in a storage tank 50. The gas is taken out of the storage tank 50 and is subjected to the purification refining to >=98% CO concn. by a CO purifying device 20. Then the gas is passed through a cooler 56 and a compressor 58 and is temporarily stored in a storage tank 22. The purified gas is blown as the stirring gas to the furnace bottom through a supply piping 16 and a tuyere gas supplying pipe 32 while the flow rate thereof is controlled by flow rate control valves 24, 26. The possibility of deteriorating the quality of steed is eliminated by the above-mentioned method. The supply of the stirring gas is made possible at a cost lower than in bottom blowing of Ar.
