In order to connect the conductor bars (19) to the squirrel-cage ring (16) of an asynchronous rotor, at least one integral, wedge-shaped melting zone (20), which is narrow and penetrates deep into the material of the squirrel-cage ring (16) and of the conductor bars (19), is produced over the entire circumference of the squirrel-cage ring (16). Once the melting zone has solidified, the ends of the conductor bars (19) and of the squirrel-cage ring (16) are joined together over a large area and without additional material, so that a mechanically high-quality composite is thus produced having a low electrical contact resistance between the conductor bars (19) and the squirrel-cage ring (16). <IMAGE>
