PURPOSE:To attain an efficient KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) conversion taking advantage of the characteristic of Japanese sentence, that is, sentence end decision, by extracting sequentially a paragraph from the end to top of an inputted KANA string. CONSTITUTION:&?The KANA string 'kyo wa kokuden de kita' (Today I came here on a national Railways.) is stored in a KANA string memory means 2, and a paragraph extracting means 5 reads the value 11 of a character position from a paragraph end capable position memory means 4, retrieves reversely a word dictionary 3, connects and tests words, extracts 'dekita' (was able) and 'kita' (came) so as to write them in a paragraph memory means 6, and writes values 8 and 9 of corresponding character positions in a memory means 4. The paragraph, using the value 9 of the character position as an end is extracted to obtain 'kokuden de', (by a National Railways), and the value 4 of the character position is written in the memory means 4. These steps are repeated, and 'kyo wa, kyo wa, kokuden de kokuden, dekita kita' (today is, city is, National Railways is National Railways) is stored in the paragraph memory means 6. An notation output means 7 evaluates the paragraph with a long notation from the top, outputs it to a display means 8, thereby obtaining 'kyo wa kokuden de kita'.
