PURPOSE:To prevent a power transmission mechanism from receiving an excessive load, and to enable a smooth change-over into a four wheel drive mode, by providing a rotational speed detector for detecting a rotational speed for determining the timing of engagement of a clutch. CONSTITUTION:A two wheel drive-four wheel drive change-over clutch 26 is disposed between a rear wheel side output shaft 25 and a drive shaft 28. A second clutch 31 is disposed between a front wheel side output shaft 26 and a drive shaft 30 coupled of the former. Further, the drive shaft 28 and the driven shaft 30 respectively having sprockets 32, 33 fitted thereon are coupled with each other by means of a chain 34 wound on the sprockets 32, 33. Further, a rotor 111 incorporating a magnet, as a rotational speed detector for detecting the rotational speed of a power transmission mechanism 27, is fitted on the drive shaft 30, and a speed sensor 113 for delivering an output signal is also provided.
