PURPOSE:To obtain a metallic structure and mechanical properties required by a steel pipe stably by using a misting jet nozzle and setting the steel pipe transporting velocity and the supply of cooling water and air to each header in the cooling header system cooling method. CONSTITUTION:A high-temp. steel pipe 2 leaving a heating furnace 1 is moved by a carrier roller 4 in the direction as shown by the arrow 3 and passed through plural cooling headers 51-58. Plural misting jet nozzles (designated as N) which are faced to the pass line of the steel pipe 2 are centripetally provided to each header 5. The supply of cooling water and air from respective supply sources 6 and 8 to the header 5 is regulated by flow controllers 7 and 9. The water and air are mixed in the nozzle N to form a misting jet flow which is sprayed on the steel pipe 2. Consequently, the cooling capacity of each header 5 can be freely selected. Meanwhile, the transporting velocity of the roller 4 can be optionally set.
