The present invention relates to an exerciser for muscle development, comprising at least one means which can be securely attached to a part of the body, such as a handle, bracelet or the like, this means being securely attached to one end of an element opposing a resistance to the displacement of the said means relative to another such means or to a stationary point. According to the invention, this exerciser comprises at least one casing 1 equipped with a reel 10 on which a rope, a strap or the like 5 is wound, a means 13 elastically stressing this reel in order to wind up the said rope or strap 5 thereon, and two fastening means 29 provided on the said casing and at the end of the said rope or strap, one at least of the said fastening means permitting secure attachment to the means which can be securely attached to a part of the body. The elastic element of the exerciser is applied in numerous types of exerciser and permits adjustment of effort. <IMAGE>
