NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by the formula I {R1 is H or acetyl; R2 is -CO2R4(R4 is H, CH3, etc.) and R3 is group shown by the formula II [R5 is H or acetyl; R6 is -C(Cl3)=NH, group shown by the formula III (R7 is H or benzoyl)]; R2 is group shown by the formula IV and R3 is -CO2R4}. EXAMPLE:Sialosylcerebroside GM. USE:A tumor marker, a differentiating marker for cells, etc. PREPARATION:A sialic acid derivative shown by the formula V (R7 is acetyl; R8 is H) is reacted with trichloroacetonitrile in a solvent such as dichloromethane, etc., in the presence of NaH, to give a compound shown by the formula V where R8 is -C(NH)CCl3. Then, this compound is reacted with a compound shown by the formula VI in a solvent such as chloroform, etc. in the presence of both molecular sieve and BF3.(C2H5)20 and optionally desacetylated and debenzoylated.
