PURPOSE:To prevent that a static latent image carrier is damaged by a developing sleeve by constituting so that the developing sleeve is separated from the static latent image carrier when the quantity of the developing agent comes to be a specified value or below. CONSTITUTION:At the vicinity of the bottom part of a developing device main body 2, two sensors 9a and 9b detecting the quantity of the developing agent are provided along the extending direction of a developing sleeve 6. At the back part of the developing device main body 2, a compressing spring 10 pressing the developing device main body 2 to a photosensitive body drum 1 side, and an electromagnetic plunger 11 to separate this from the photosensitive body drum 1 are provided. The electromagnetic plungers 11 and 11 and sensors 9a and 9b are respectively connected to a control circuit 12. Thus, when the quantity of the developing agent comes to be the specified value or below, the developing sleeve is separated from the static latent image carrier and it is prevented that both are allowed to contact directly with each other.
