The protective sleeve for transportation and use is intended for staircase steps and handrails of prefabricated installed staircases. In order to be able to install and use the original steps and handrails for such installed staircases even during the carcass building phase without the risk of damage, the sleeve (1) is formed from a multi-part blank of tread-proof and impact-proof material, such as hard fibreboard, chipboard, plastic material or the like which is adapted in shape. The parts (3) of the blank are constructed so as to be linked to one another in a foldable manner and, furthermore, the sleeve (1) is provided with at least one fitting cutout (4) on the step-holding or handrail-holding element side. <IMAGE>
