PURPOSE:To obtain a clad ingot which consists of two different material layers and has a desired cladding ratio with high reliability by pouring a molten base steel to the inlet side of a hollow channel passage of a mold and adding an alloy element to the inside of the unsolidified steel while drawing the incompletely solidified ingot from the outlet side of said passage to the outside then cooling the entire part of the ingot. CONSTITUTION:The molten base steel A of a tundish 6 is poured to the inlet side of the hollow channel passage 7b of the mold 7 and a solidified shell A1 is formed to the steel A during the passage through the passage 7b so that the incompletely solidified billet B filled with the unsolidified steel A in the shell A1 is obtd. The ingot B is continuously drawn along the ingot passage 8 from the outlet side of the passage 7b and successively a non-oxidizing atmosphere is maintained on the surface of the steel A by a suitable means such as for suspending a flux on the surface of the steel A of the ingot B. The alloy element is then added to the steel A by melting an alloy element wire 12 by a heating electrode 14 or other means. the molten steel F of the different kind is thus obtd. and successively the incompletely solidified ingot C filled with the molten steel F is cooled with the cooling water 21, etc. while the ingot is drawn. The clad ingot is obtd. as the thoroughly solidified ingot D. |
