<p>A system and method for communicating over a wide area network (28), such as the Internet, in which data is stored in a web browser format on an optical memory card (12) and the card is linked through a card reader/writer (16) to a plurality of other user addresses (30) over a wide area network (28). The data may include a variety of types of information such as a user's personal data, configuration information, bookmark files, URL links or other such data.
