PURPOSE:To improve the productivity and yield of a clad steel billet by forming spirally and continuously a steel strip, welding the butt edges thereof, feeding downward the formed steel pipe and pouring a molten steel of the material different from the material of the steel strip to the hollow part of the steel pipe. CONSTITUTION:The steel strip 1 is spirally and curvilinearly formed by forming rolls 2 and is guided by guide rolls 3. The butt edges 5 thereof are welded by a submerged arc welding machine, etc. to form the spiral steel pipe 6. The pipe 6 is delivered on the prescribed downward grade or perpendicularly downward. The molten steel 8 consisting of the different material is poured into the hollow part 7 of the pipe 6 and the inside peripheral surface of the steel strip is melted by as much as the prescribed thickness by the quantity of the heat retained therein. The pipe 6 is cooled from the outside peripheral surface side by cooling water supplying nozzles 11. The solidification is progressed while the steel strip 1 and the molten metal 8 are metallurgically bonded. The clad steel billet 9 which is thoroughly solidified is cut to a prescribed length by a gas cutting machine, etc., by which the stock for a clad steel bar or seamless clad steel pipe is obtd. |
