PURPOSE:To replenish an electrolytic matrix with electrolyte, through an electrode, without causing liquid junction, by putting the electrolyte on the recessed part of a perforated collector plate consisting of both recessed and projecting parts. CONSTITUTION:Electrolyte 10 for replenishment in a slurry state, which is made by kneading minutely powdered carbonate, in eutectic composition of Li2CO2:K2CO3 62/38mol%, with alcohol, is put on the recessed part of a perforated collector plate 13. While a temperature rise of the cell, when operated, makes the alcohol evaporate to leave only the electrolyte, the electrolyte melts at temperatures above 500 deg.C. Since the collector plate 13 is perforated, the melting electrolyte soaks into small holes of a minus electrode 4, then making contact with an electrolytic matrix 3'. Because the minus electrode 4 has less affinity for electrolyte and the electrolytic matrix 3' has more superior capacity of holding electrolyte, the electrolyte moves into the electrolyte matrix 3', through the small holes from the minus electrode 4, to be replenished. |
