PURPOSE:To obtain a link chain having satisfactory weldability and hardenability as well as superior wear resistance and fatigue strength by providing a tempered martensite structure formed by tempering after hardening or carburization and hardening to elemental links made of a steel contg. regulated amounts of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni, etc. CONSTITUTION:Elemental links forming a link chain are made of a steel consisting of 0.20-0.30% C, 0.10-0.30% Si, 0.70-1.70% Mn, 0.40-0.70% Cr, 0.75-2.00% Ni, 0.01-0.05% Al, <=0.030% P, <=0.030% S and the balance Fe. The links are characterized by the tempered martensite structure formed by tempering after hardening or carburization and hardening. The links have improved rupture strength, fatigue strength and toughness without deteriorating the weldability or hardenability.
