PURPOSE:To prevent the oscillation of a positioning control system by fixing a block of a rigid member on the base of a magnetic disk device containing a rotary carriage mechanism and attaching an elastic member to the block to press a carriage shaft. CONSTITUTION:A block 12 having high rigidity is fixed on a base 1, and a spring member 13 attached to the upper surface of the block 12 touches the upper end face 14 of a carriage shaft 8 to press the face 14. A proper frictional state is secured between the face 14 and the member 13. This frictional force attenuates the vibrations of the shaft 8.
