PURPOSE:To reduce the load of a host device by transmitting the cylinder number of a shipping zone after giving the parallel/serial conversion to it by an instruction given from the host device. CONSTITUTION:The cylinder number of a shipping zone proper to a disk device is set at a switch 3 ad delivered in the form of the parallel data E. Then the reset signal H is produced when a power supply is applied, and the data E is stored temporarily in a converting circuit 4 in a reset release mode. When a read shipping zone cylinder instruction is delivered from a host device, the disk device sends the signal J to the circuit 4 through a receiving circuit 8. The circuit 4 sends its holding data to the host device via a transmitting circuit 5 after converting it into the serial data F.
