PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of working by providing a high speed motor for rotating a work with high speed in a profile grinding machine for grinding cam shafts or the like to grind the circular portion of a journal of the work or the like with high speed. CONSTITUTION:A profile grinding machine is constituted from a base body 1, a work holder 2, a servo motor 3, a grinding wheel bed 4, a controller 5 and an induction motor 6 as a high speed motor. When a non-circular portion like a cam portion 80 of a shaft-like work 8 is formed by this grinding machine, the servo motor 3 is connected to the work 8 through an engaging member 22 to rotate the work 8 with low speed. And the rotation of the work 8 is synchronized with the drive of the grinding wheel bed 4 by the controller 5 to advance the grinding wheel bed 4 according to a control program for grinding the cam portion 80. Next, when a circular portion like a journal portion 81 is formed, the induction motor 6 is connected to the work 8 through an engaging member 23 and the motor 6 is rotated to grind the journal portion 81 with a grinding wheel 42.
