PURPOSE:To eliminate a flicker by inverting the polarity of a signal which drives liquid crystal each column wiring and equalizing the number of picture elements which are driven positively on image surface to that of picture elements which are driven negatively. CONSTITUTION:The polarity of picture element electrode with respect to a common electrode of the first field is inputted with the polarity inverted for every column wiring of an active matrix substrate. Then, in the second field, the polarity is inverted every column wiring of the active matrix substrate for the first field. Consequently, picture elements which drive the liquid crystal positively and picture elements which drive the liquid crystal negatively are equal in number between the 1st and the 2nd field to eliminate the difference in the quantity of light transmitted through a liquid crystal layer in total between the 1st and 2nd field, so that no flicker is caused and the display quality is improved.
