PURPOSE:To allow a reproducing head to follow up recording tracks of a magnetic tape precisely by arranging a magnetic head for tracking detection nearby the reproducing head mounted at part of the peripheral edge part of a rotary cylinder. CONSTITUTION:Reproducing heads 6a and 6b are fitted to the outer periphery of the rotary cylinder 5 arranged having its rotating shaft slanted alightly in the traveling direction of the magnetic tape 4, and two magnetic heads 7a and 7a', and 7b' and 7b' are provided successively on both sides of the reproducing heads 6a and 6b in a track width direction. This reproducing head 6a is displaced and set at an optimum tracking position while an operational amplifier 8 and a head driving circuit 9 are put in operation repeatedly on the basis of output signals of detection heads 7a and 7a', so that it follows up a recording track A2. Output levels of the detection heads 7a and 7b which are inputted to the operational amplifier 8 are adjustable through a variable resistor. Consequently, a device which makes a good response during tracking adjustment is obtained.
