PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to make a substrate insoluble and to realize low-cost manufacture by forming a thin film of organic pigment on a stamper which has signal or guide grooves and then transferring this film to a base as a substrate. CONSTITUTION:Pigment liquid 2 is dripped on the stamper 1. The stamper 1 is rotated to form the thin film 3 of pigment on the projected and recessed surface of the stamper 1 and a transparent film 4 applied with a pressure- sensitive adhesive is pressed against the thin pigment film 3 and then peeled off the stamper 1, so the thin pigment film 3 is transferred to the film while having the projections and recessed of the stamper surface. The stamper uses a nickel stamper, a chromium alloy stamper, etc., and the pigment uses pigment which has a large coefficient of light absorption of >=10<4> preferably, e.g. triphenyl methane pigment, xanthene pigment, etc. Consequently, a recording medium is manufactured at low cost without making its substrate insoluble.
