PURPOSE:To reduce remarkably the information quantity of color picture information subjected to a gradation conversion by applying the gradation conversion to the color picture information of multi-color into that of a few colors and using the profile information and the color information of an inside so as to code the continuous region of the extracted same color. CONSTITUTION:A gradation conversion processing section 112 applies the gradation conversion to the color picture of multi-color of the 1st screen memory and stores the result in the 2nd screen memory 113. Through the gradation conversion, multi-color picture information whose color tone is changed smoothly is subjected to the gradation conversion into a designated less color picture information and the plural number of consecutive areas comprised of the same color are formed. A coding section 131 uses the profile information of the area obtained by a same color area profile information extraction means 120 and the color information in the inside and stores the result in a coded data memory 132. Through the coding processing, the information quantity to the color picture subjected to same gradation conversion is reduced to 1/100-1/10 in comparison with the color picture information system coded at every picture element.
