The gripper (1) is intended for inserting weft yarn (5) into the shed of a gripper weaving loom and presenting it for take-over by a pull-through gripper (6) inserted from the other side. - The gripper (1) comprises a yarn guide element (3) which is movable (pivoted 14) relative to the gripper body (2; 7-9) and, together with that body, provides the yarn clamp (4) action. The element pref. forms the forwardly projecting wing (12) of the gripper and pref. consists of a two-armed pivoted (14) lever spring-loaded (20) to close (and momentarily cam-actuated at 21 to open). The clamp unit (4) may comprise a jaw (17; 19) secured to the (underside 7 of the) body and a spring wire (18) secured to the (underside 11 of the) element or vice versa.
