PURPOSE:To develop a permanent magnet of rare earth elements excelling in coercive force as well as residual magnetic flux density by properly controlling H2 content in a sintering atmosphere, together with sintering temp., in manufacturing by sintering process a permanent magnet containing rare earth metals and transition metals as principal components. CONSTITUTION:The powder of an alloy containing as principal components 1 or >=2 elements among rare earth metals and 1 or >=2 elements among transition metals is prepared, which is compacted into prescribed shape. The green compact is subjected to heating and temp. raise, e.g., in an H2-containing Ar atmosphere having >=1vol% H2 content until the temp. reaches between the temp. lower than the sintering temp. by 50 deg.C and the sintering temp., when the heating atmosphere is switched to a nonoxidizing gas atmosphere having <=1vol% H2 gas, such as Ar gas atmosphere etc., to carry out sintering. The sintered compact is finally subjected to solution heat treatment, so that the permanent magnet of rare earth elements excelling in residual magnetic flux density and coercive force can be manufactured. |
