PURPOSE:To obtain the oscillator characterized by a simple structure and a long life, by providing an individual divided cathode, in which a plurality of rod shaped electrodes are connected in parallel, exposing the end parts of the rod shaped electrodes by a specified length, covering the other parts with insulating material, and shortening the exposed parts with thin wire. CONSTITUTION:A cathode 1 of a laser oscillator is divided into a plurality of parts. Namely, each electrode 1 comprises a plurality of rod shaped electrodes 11. One end of each rod shaped electrode 11 is exposed by a length so that the approximately entire exposed part is covered by negative glow at a current value, which is not arced at the time of discharge. The intermediate part is insulated. The other end is connected to a conducting shaft 10. The rod shaped electrodes 11 are connected to the conducting shaft in parallel. The exposed ends are linked with connecting wire 14, which is sufficiently smaller than the diameter of each rod shaped electrode 11. At this time, it is suitable that the length of the glow extension is approximately equal to the diameter of the electrode including the thickness of the negative glow which is determined by the pressure and composition of a gas, regardless of voltage and current. Therefore, the wire can be arranged at separated positions if the distance is within a range less than said length from the tip of the rod shaped electrode. |
