PURPOSE:To improve washing, draining and drying properties and to prevent defective coating by spraying a soln. obtained by adding an org. solvent to deionized water on the side where the water of a material to be treated after chemical conversion treatment and water washing is collected. CONSTITUTION:In a water washing method of an automobile body, etc., after chemical conversion treatment, a material 3 to be treated is subjected to chemical conversion treatment 1 such as degreasing, then water washings 8, 9, 20, 25 and 26 are applied and a soln. 29 obtained by adding an org. solvent such as methyl alcohol to deionized water is subsequently sprayed on the horizontal place of the material 3 to be treated where water is easily collected. Consequently, since the surface tension of the water remaining at the place where water is easily collected is low, the amt. of remaining water is kept at a minimum and defective coating can be prevented.
