One late has at least two tracks (11,12) oen on each side of it with low radial clearance, permitting axial displacement of the central part of the plate as the result of axial pressing together of the two plates, leading to an alteration in pressure in the fluid between them. The plate (2) with the tracks permitting central part movement or the opposing rigid plate (1) on its outwardly facing side has a lowered part against which locates a plate (16) of pliable material, e.g. rubber or similar elastomer substance. The plate, in its inactivated position, has a thickness exceeding the depth of the lowered part in relation to the remainder of the blate side, but when a load is applied with the plates being pressed together the pliable plate becomes level with the surrounding surface. |
