PURPOSE:To realize doubling the track density by using a stepping motor of the disc device itself to position a head and to write servo information thereby eliminating the need for an expensive positioning device and simplifying the position deviation correction control. CONSTITUTION:A head 1 faces respectively four data storage faces of two discs 26, the head 1 is positioned in one phase exciting state by using the head 1, a moving mechanism 29 and a stepping motor 18 to record alternately servo information A and B. A servo sector 31 is placed just after the reference position by a position detector 7, a data track is set to a position where the information A in the one phase exciting state and the information B in the 2-phase exciting state have equal amplitude in the read signal and the position corresponds to the state flowing a different current to 2-phase windings of the motor 18. Then a servo control circuit 23 positions the head 1 just above the center line of the track. In this case, the current value applied to the winding of the motor 18 is adjusted based on the motor 18.
