PURPOSE:To decrease the number of operating keys and to reduce the required area of a console panel by discriminating whether or not the depression time of the operation key exceeds a prescribed time and using its discrimination output so as to select the operation mode of the CD player into the skip mode or the manual search mode. CONSTITUTION:In depressing an operation key 29 momentarily (within 0.5s), a microcomputer 30 discriminates the depression of the operation key 29, and counts the depression key of the operating key 20. When it is discriminated that the depression time exceeds a prescribed time, the microcomputer 30 gives a command to a traverse control circuit 25 to bring the CD player into the manual search mode state. On the other hand, when the depression time of the operation key 29 is shorter than a prescribed time, the skip mode is selected. Since the key 29 selects both the modes, the number of operation keys is less and the area of the console panel is decreased.
