An apparatus for trimming piezoelectric components of the type characterized by a piezoelectric substrate (41) upon which is deposited a conductive material (42). The apparatus includes a housing (52) for the device at least a portion of which (51) is substantially transparent to electromagnetic energy at a predetermined wavelength. A laser (4) provides energy at the predetermined wavelength and with sufficient intensity to evaporate the conductive material. A test circuit coupled (2) to the device monitors specific frequency-related characteristics and provides a corresponding output to a control system (7). The control system (7) dictates the operation of a deflection system that directs the electromagnetic energy provided by the laser means (4) and a laser power control device (8) that regulates the intensity of that energy.
