PURPOSE:To obviate mismatching, simplify construction and reduce cost, by a method wherein even when a driving gear and a driven gear are mismatched at the time of engagement, a small quantity of electric power is supplied to a driving motor to rotate the driving gear at a very low speed. CONSTITUTION:When a carriage return key is operated after printing a one-line amount of data, a CPU 60 outputs a signal Pm to an electromagnet 33 to excite the latter. By this excitation, the second operating arm 31 is attractedly turned, and based on the engagement of a projected part 29 of the first operating arm 27 with a fastening rib 25, the driven gear 24 is slightly turned counterclockwise by an energizing force of a spring 30, a notched recessed part 24b thereof is separated from the driving gear 22, and a tooth part 24a is engaged with the driving gear 22. The CPU 60 simultaneously excites the electromagnet 33 and operate a chopping means 63 to supply the driving motor 21 with chopped electric power. At this time, even if tips of the teeth of the gears 24, 22 abut against each other and the gears are mismatched, the abutment is released by rotation of the driving gear 22 at a very low speed, and the gears are meshed with each other. |
