NEW MATERIAL:The alkane sulfonate derivative of formula I (R<1> is 1-12C alkyl; R<2> is 1-4C alkyl or halogen-substituted 1-4C alkyl; x is 0-2; m is 1 or 2). EXAMPLE:3-Chloro-6-ethylthio-2-pyridylmethane sulfonate. USE:An insecticidal, miticidal and nematocidal agent. It is useful for the treatment of paddy field, plowed land, orchard, forestry, etc. The compound is a contact poison to enable the control of vermin in high killing efficiency. Vermin on the leaf can be controlled by treating the base of the plant. It acts also as a systemic insecticide. There is little phytotoxicity to the host plant. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the compound of formula II [Y is H or alkaline (earth) metal] with sulfonyl chloride of formula III or sulfonic acid anhydride of formula IV at -10-+100 deg.C for 0.5-10hr, if necessary in the presence of an acid acceptor such as a base.
