PURPOSE:To obtain a cartridge which can be handled easily, and also can execute completely a protecting operation for a recording medium in a container, by constituting it so that a groove hole for passing through a recording/reproducing element is set to an open state or a closed state by shielding plate in relation to an installing operation of the cartridge for a recording/reproducing device. CONSTITUTION:In case when a cartridge has been installed to a rotation driving mechanism RD in a recording/reproducing device, an opening/closing operating piece 30 which has been provided on a cover 22 of the recording/reproducing device follows up an opening/closing operation of the cover 22 and moves in a state that it has been pressed against the end part of a shielding plate 15, in an operating piece passing guide groove 16 which has been provided on a block end part of a container 1 of the cartridge. Accordingly, the shielding plate 15 slides on a flat outside peripheral side face 13 of the container 1 of the cartridge as the operating piece 30 moves, against an energizing force of a spring 18, and moves until a window hole 14 which has been pierced into the shielding plate 15 conforms with a part of a groove hole 12 for projecting a recording/reproducing element, which has been pierced on the flat outside peripheral side face 13 of the container 1 of the cartridge.
