A gas-discharge lamp is proposed, in the case of which the electrodes (2, 3) are arranged to be insulated with respect to the fluorescent gas which is contained in a quartz tube (1). This is achieved in a simple manner in that the electrodes (2, 3) surround the quartz tube (1) externally. The wall of the quartz tube (1) at the same time acts as a dielectric. Since contact between the fluorescent gas and the electrodes (2, 3) is avoided, this results in a considerable increase in the life, and the connecting wires can be passed to the electrodes (2, 3) in a very simple manner. <IMAGE>
