PURPOSE:To prevent an uneven winding at the winding edges, by detecting the variation of the linear velocity of a traverse movement, and driving a pilot motor to adjust and tranfer the starting and ending position devices of the traverse movement. CONSTITUTION:A wire W is wound up on a taper bobbin 8 through a traverse guides 7, while slipping at the pripheral surface of a capstan roller 4 which is forced to rotate. Comparison signals are output by detecting the linear velocity near at the beginning, the ending, and an intermediate point of a traverse movement of the guides 7, by which a pilot motor 16 is driven, position setting devices 13 and 14 are adjusted and transferred, the beginning or the ending of the guides 7 is made variable, and a concave or convex produced at the winding edges of the bobbin 8 is corrected, to obtain an adequate winding condition automatically.
