PURPOSE:To estimate easily a gap depth b measuring a distance between a groove having a prescribed angle against a sliding surface of a magnetic head, and a magnetic gap, by providing its groove on the side face of a core. CONSTITUTION:A groove 11 is formed on the side face of a core 4. This groove 11 is provided, for instance, on a production of a slant face B, and forms a notch part by crossing a sliding surface A at an angle theta. Accordingly, when a distance (l) between a magnetic gap 6 and the end edge of the groove 11 is measured, a gap depth (d) can be derived as d=ltantheta. After a slider has been attached, the surface A is ground so that a recording medium is not flawed, but by measuring the distance (l) which is varied in accordance with its grinding quantity, the depth (d) can be known easily.
