A fault detector for fiber clearer detects the fault when the detected voltage of the detectin circuit is under preset value and stops the clearer. This comprises an amplifier(11), a detector(10) detecting the status of the fiber, a comparator(1), a switching circuit(2), a lamp(3) for displaying the fault, and a fiber cutter(12). When the fault is caused by the fiber , the trouble fiber is removed by the fiber cutter(12) so that the fault is repaired automatically.
