PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of backfire due to racing, by a method wherein, during a given time from right after the starting of an engine, in addition to a normal first acceleration increase amount, a second acceleration increase, determined in consideration of a warming-up state, is given. CONSTITUTION:A time when the opening of the throttle valve of an engine, detected by a terminal 17 of a throttle opening detector, exceeds a given value is detected as a signal provided during acceleration. By means of the detecting signal, first and second acceleration increase circuits 15 and 16 are actuated to feed a singal for an acceleration increase to a multiplying circuit 6. In which case, actuation of the second acceleration increase circuit 16 is related to actuation of a timing circuit 14, and the second acceleration increase circuit is so constituted that it is rendered inoperative after completion of actuation of the timing circuit 14. An acceleration increase is effected by means of the added output of the first and second acceleration increase circuits 15 and 16, meanwhile, in order to change the operating state, e.g., the value of acceleration increase, by means of a cooling water temperature, a signal from an operating state detecting circuit 7 is utilized.
