PURPOSE:To enable a paper and a type to be appropriately set, by a system wherein a space pitch and a line feed pitch are switchingly designated from a host device and an operating panel of a printer, and are displayed. CONSTITUTION:Data received from a host device (a) are momentarily stored into a reception buffer 3 by a printer-controlling part 2. Next, the part 2 reads the contents of the buffer 3, and output a printing command to a printing part 4. When the data read from the buffer 3 contain data for switching the space pitch and the line feed pitch supplied from the host device (a) through the part 2 to desired pitches, the part 2 designates switching of the pitches to a space pitch controlling part 5 and a line feed pitch controlling part 6. Accordingly, the paper and the type can be appropriately set.
