Disclosed herein are a derivative of tetrahydrobenzothiazole represented by the formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) wherein R represents a methyl group, ethyl group or propyl group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group methoxy group, acetoxy group, propionyloxy group, butylyloxy group, chloroacetoxy group, methoxyacetoxy group, C1 to C4-alkylamino group or di(C1 to C4)-alkylamino group, or represents O=together with R2; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or represents O=together with R1; and X represents a methylene group, hydroxymethylene group, carbonyl group or -O-, and a herbicidal composition containing the same as an active ingredient.
