PURPOSE:To manufacture an optical fiber having a projecting edge surface by a simple apparatus, by deforming a polishing plate into recessed form by pressing the optical fiber for the polishing plate having elasticity. CONSTITUTION:An elastic polishing plate 32 having a polishing material on the upper surface is loaded onto a supporting board 31. Said supporting board 31 is revolved at a high speed by a driving motor 34. A ferrule 20 for fixing an optical fiber 21 is installed onto a holding mechanism, and pressed downward by a prescribed pressing force onto the polishign plate 32, and said plate 32 is deformed into recessed form. In this state, the ferrule 20 is revolved around the center shaft for the revolution of the polishing plate 32 at a low speed on the polishing plate, and polished into projection form. |
