The motor drive for the head drum (1) and the tape transport (4, 6) of a video recorder is controlled phase-locked with a comparison oscillation by means of rotational speed sensors (7, 22) and phase comparison circuits (12, 25). For synchronising the head drum with the synchronising pulses of a synchronising pulse oscillation (IVSync), a phase measured value (Ap) for the phase error is generated from the phase comparison of the pulse oscillation of the angle of rotation sensor (9) of the head drum and the synchronising pulse oscillation and is stored. The error and the error progression of the phase, which is determined from the stored measured values, is used to determine or calculate the set value or set value progression of the comparison oscillation for the phase comparison circuit (12) of the direct-current motor (3) to be controlled. <IMAGE>
