Provided are a magnetic type encoder device of a high detection-angle precision, which is high in a mounting position precision on a stator of a magnetic field detecting element and which is small in the position change of the magnetic field detecting element due to a temperature, and a method for manufacturing the encoder device. Electrically conductive pads (32) are formed on the four side faces of a stator (3) made of a base material of an insulator into a generally quadrangular prism. Magnetic field detecting elements (4) are mounted on the pads (32). The stator (3) has a cylindrical space (28) formed in its central portion, so that an output signal of a small phase error is obtained from the magnetic detecting elements (4) when a permanent magnet (2) fixed in a rotor (1) rotates in the space (28). The output signal is converted by a not-shown signal processing circuit into an angular signal.
