The invention provides for shunting to be performed no longer sequentially but rather simultaneously so that larger goods wagons capacities can be shunted in a very narrow space in a very short time. In this process, traverser technology is used consistently in order to be able to move wagons, without the aid of points, onto storage places arranged in parallel rows, from where they can be combined, again using traversers, in a changed sequence, arranged according to destination stations, to form new trains.
