PURPOSE:To produce fine powder of compound oxide of Nb having uniform and desired composition at a relatively low temperature, in high purity, by reacting a Ba.Nb compound alkoxide with an Sr.Nb compound alkoxide, and hydrolyzing and calcining the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:A niobium alkoxide is mixed with metallic barium at a Ba:Nb molar ratio of 1:2 and reacted to produce Ba[Nb(OR)6]2. In the similar manner, a niobium alkoxide is mixed with metallic strontium at a Sr:Nb molar ratio of 1:2 and reacted to produce Sr[Nb(OR)6]2. The produced Ba[Nb(OR)6]2 and Sr[Nb(OR)6]2 are mixed and reacted with each other at a ratio to attain a desired Ba:Sr atomic ratio. The reaction product is hydrolyzed and then calcined to obtain the objective fine powder of compound oxide of niobium. The calcination temperature is preferably >=800 deg.C to improve the crystal transition efficiency and is preferably below the decomposition initiation temperature of the fine powder of compound oxide of niobium.
