PURPOSE:To efficiently remove carbonyl sulfide in various gases by hydrolysis, by forming a catalyst for the hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide containing alumina and barium oxide respectively in a specific amount. CONSTITUTION:Alumina is impregnated with an aqueous solution containing a barium compound such as barium nitrate, barium hydroxide or barium acetate and the impregnated one is backed while air is sufficiently flowed at temp. equal to or more than the decomposition temp. of the aforementioned compound, for example, in a temp. range from 250 deg.C-800 deg.C being the deteriorating or surface area lowering temp. of alumina to obtain a catalyst for the hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide (COS) consisting of alumina and barium oxide. It is preferable to set barium to 0.1-10 (atomic ratio) with respect to 100Al in alumina. By contacting this catalyst with COS-containing gas, COS can be easily converter to H2S. |
